The
French space agency CNES (Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales)
is a
Public Institution of Industrial and Commercial Endeavour (EPIC),
under the joint
tutelage of the Ministry of Research and New Technologies, and
the Ministry
of Defense. Created in 1961, its mandate is to propose a French
space strategy
to the government and then put this strategy in action.
