Final Programme

Organised by the European Space Agency
In co-operation with CNES
INTRODUCTION
Multipactor, Corona and Passive InterModulation (PIM) are anomalous effects that continue
to be a problem in modern satellite systems due to increased transmit power, frequencies
and wider bandwidth. This workshop is organised as a follow up to the last workshop that was held in March 1996.
Modern satellite structures are made of composite material with high out-gassing properties.
Venting has to be adequate; to prevent Corona discharges at Turn-On of the payloads.
The study of different types of surface treatments to reduce secondary emission in high power R.F. Hardware,
is a key element in reducing the risk of Multipactor discharge.
PIM continues to be a problem from L-band up to Ka-Band. With higher frequency transmitters on
board, there is high probability that lower order PIM will fall in the receive band.
With increased number of transmitters on modern spacecraft and vicinity of the transmitting antennas, the
spacecraft structure begins to play a major roll in generation of PIM.
Low PIM design and measurement can no longer be constraint to output components common to both transmit
and receive paths,
the complete satellite including the payloads has to be developed and measured for PIM.
GENERAL INFORMATION
REGISTRATION
To register for the Workshop, please complete the registration form included in this
preliminary programme and fax it to the ESTEC Conference Bureau.
There is no registration fee for this Workshop.
The registration desk for the Workshop will open at 11:00 on Monday 4 September 2000 at the entrance of the ESTEC Conference Centre where pre-registered participants will be able to collect their badges and abstract books.
ACCOMMODATION
A number of rooms have been pre-reserved at special rates in Noordwijk and its
surroundings. Please complete the hotel reservation form included in this
preliminary programme and fax or mail it to the ESTEC Hotel Reservation Service
before 1 August 2000. As the period of the Symposium is also a busy time
in Noordwijk, we strongly advise you to send the form back before 1
August 2000, availability cannot be guaranteed after this date.
BANK/TRAVEL SERVICES
The services of the ABN AMRO bank at ESTEC and of the in-house travel office
will be available to the participants.
